I was asked to design a simple dishcloth for beginners using only sc, hdc, & dc for a class. Here is what I came up with.
- 1-2 ounces of worsted weight cotton yarn
- 5mm (H) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- ch(s) chain
- sc – single corchet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
IMPORTANT NOTE: On the hdc & dc rows you will be couting the ch2 & ch3 as sts. You will also skip the 1st st of the rows you work hdc & dc on to comensate for this.
TO BEGIN: Make a slip knot on your hook this can count as a chain if you want it to and ch 28. Ch1 t
ROW 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 26 chs. Ch1, turn. 27sc
ROW 2: sc in next 27 chs. Ch2, turn. 27sc
ROW 3: skip the 1st st on this row as the ch2 you did before turning counts as a st, hdc next 26 sts. Ch3, turn 27hdc
ROW 4: skip the 1st st on this row as the ch3 you did before turning counts as a st, dc in next 26 sts. Ch1, turn 27dc
ROW 5: The ch1 before turning does NOT count as a st in this row. Sc in next 27 sts. Ch2, turn. 27sc
REPEATrows 3-5 until you reach how tall you want your dishcloth.
REPEAT row 5 once again but end off instead of ch1 & turning. Weave in all your ends.
