Guage: After round 8 square is 6 inches wide.


  • 1-2 ounces of worsted weight yarn in 3 colors – CA, CB, CC
  • Crochet hook size H (5mm)
  • Tapestry needle

Stitches Used:

  • sl st – slip stitch
  • ch – chain(s)
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • Popcorn – Work 5 sts in same st, drop loop from hook, insert hook to top of 1st dc of group, pull dropped loop though stitch.
  • BLO – back loop only

Note about the colors: CA is the background color. CB is the leaf color. CC is the tulip color.

Round 1: With CA, ch4, join with a sl st to first ch to make a loop. In loop ch3, 2dc, ch2, (3dc, ch2) 3 times. Join with a sl st in BLO in top ch of ch3. 12dc, 4 ch2 sp

Round 2: ch3, in BLO dc in next 2 sts, * (in ch2 sp, 2dc, ch2, 2dc,) in BLO dc in next 3 sts* 3 times then ( ) once. Join with a sl st to top of beg ch3 then put st one a stitch marker to hold yarn – DO NOT finish off! 28dc, 4 ch2 sp

Round 3: In first front loop of any dc from r1 join CB with a sl st, * [ch13, sl st in same st sl st in next st in FLO] 3 times. Ch3, sl st into ch2sp of r2, ch3, sl st to next st from r1 in FLO * 4 times. Finish Off. 12 ch13 loops, 24 sl st Note: last sl st will be joined in the stitch you joined in.

Round 4: Picking up the st from r2 that was on the stitch marker, ch3, dc in the next 4 sts, * (working over sl st from r3, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in same sp), dc next 7 sts * 3 times then ( )once, dc next 2 sts. Join with a sl st to top of ch3. 44dc, 4 ch2 sp

Round 5: ch3, dc in next 6 sts, (2dc, ch2, 2dc in ch2 sp), dc in next 11 sts, * 3 times then ( ) once more, dc in next 4 sts. Join with a sl st in BLO to top of ch3. 60dc, 4 ch2 sp NOTE: For easier placement of popcorn stitches in r7 mark the 4th, 8th, & 12th stitches on each side.

Round 6: ch1, work BLO – sc in same as joining, working BLO sc in next 8 sts, 3sc in ch2 sp, * working BLO sc in next 15 sc, 3sc in ch2sp * 3 times, sc in next 6 sts. Join with a sl st in BLO of first sc. Finish Off.

Round 7: NOTE: You will working in the front loops of round 5 EXCEPT the sl st in the corners which will be worked in round 6. With CC and working in both loops join in middle st of any 3sc group from previous rnd with a sl st, * ch5, ([sk 4st, popcorn in the front loop of the next st you marked on rnd 5, ch5, sk 3 sts of rnd 5] twice, popcorn in the front loop of the next st you marked in round 5, ch5, sk 5 sts of rnd 5), sl st through both loops of middle st in 3sc group of round 6 * 3 times then ( ) once more. Finish Off.

Round 8: With MC, join with a sc in any middle sc of 3sc group of rnd 6 AND working over sl st from rnd 7, 2sc in same as joining. * (sc next 4 sts, [{ch1 skipping popcorn and next st from round 7}, sc in next 3 st] 2 times, then { } , sc in next 4 sts), 3sc in next st * 3 times, then * to *once more. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. NOTE: You will be working in front of the chain spaces made in round 7. You will also be skipping the stitch that corresponds with the popcorn from round 7.

Round 9: ch3, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in same st. * (dc in next 19 sts), 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next st* 3 times then ( ) once – omitting the last dc. Join with a sl st in 1st sc. Finish Off.
