Geometrica – Mish Mash June 2018 Crochet Square

This square is for Intermediate crocheters. At the end of the post I will have photos for each round to help you out.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Guage: After round 2 piece is 2.5” wide.
Materials:

  • 1-2 ounces of worsted weight yarn in 2 colors – C1 & C2
  • Hook size 5mm (H) crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Stitches Used:

I will be using standing tr in this pattern. Crystals and Crochet have a great tutorial about standing stitches you can find at http://www.crystalsandcrochet.com/crochet/starting-and-standing-stitches/


Round 1: With C1 ch5, sl st to 1st ch to make a loop. Ch3, 15dc in loop. Joinw ith a sl st to top of beg ch3. 16dc

Round 2: Ch1, sc in same as joining, * (sk next st, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next st, sk next st), sc in next st * 3 times, then ( ) once. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. Finish Off. 4Sc, 24dc, 4 ch2 sps

Round 3: With C2 join with a sl st in any ch2 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, * (fptr around st from rnd 1 you did the dc in, sc in same ch2, bpsc next 7 sts), sc in next ch2 sp * three times then ( ) once. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. 8Sc, 28bpsc, 4fptr

Round 3

Round 4: ch1, sc in same st as joing, sc next 2 sts, * (hdc next st, dc next st, sk next st, 3tr, ch2, 3tr in next st, sk next st, dc next st, hdc next st), sc next 3 sts * three times then ( ) once. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. Finish Off. 12Sc, 8hdc, 8dc, 24tr, 4 ch2 sps

Round 4Round 4

Round 5: NOTE: You will be skipping sts where the fpdc lineup – this is intended. With C1 join with a standing bpsc in the 1st st after the ch2 sp, bpsc in next 4 sts * (fpdc around fptr of rnd 3, sc in next st, fpdc around same fptr of rnd 3, bpsc next 5 sts, sl st in ch2 sp), bpsc next 5 sts * three times then ( ) once. Sl st to 1st bpsc. 4Sc, 40bpsc, 8fpd, 4sl st

Round 6: ch1, sc in same as joining, * (hdc next st, dc next 3 sts, tr next st, tr, ch2, tr next st, tr next st, dc next 3 sts, hdc next st), sc next 3 sts the middle sc in this group will be worked in the sl st from prev. rnd * three times then ( ) once, sc next 2 sts. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. 12Sc, 24dc, 8hdc, 16tr

Round 7: ch1, sc in same st as joining, * (hdc next 6 sts, 5dc in ch2 sp, hdc next 6 sts), sc next 3 sts * three times then ( ) once, sc next 2 sts. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. Finish Off. 12 sc, 48hdc, 20 dc

Round 8: NOTE: You will be using both colors in this round. With C2 join in 2nd st of 5dc group from rnd 7 with a sl st, ch3, * (dc, ch3, dc next st, dc next st, [switch colors ,dc in next 2 sts] four times, switch colors, 2dc next st this adds a stitch as well as makes the amount of stitches even – it is intended, [switch colors, dc in next 2 sts] four times), switch colors* 3 times then ( ) once. Join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. Finish Off. 88dc, 4 ch2 sps

Round 9: With C1 join with a standing sc in st after ch2 sp or rnd 8, sc in next 21 sts, * (working in round 7 & 3rd dc of 5 dc group – dc, ch2, dc you will skip the ch3 from prev. rnd), dc next 22 sts * three times then ( ) once. Join with sl st to 1st sc. Finish Off. 88sc, 8dc, 4 ch2 sps

Round 9

Round 10: With C1 join with a sl st to any ch2 sp, hdc, ch2, 2hdc in same ch sp, * (hdc next 24 sts), 2hdc, ch2, 2hdc in next ch sp * 3 times then ( ) once. Finish Off. 112Hdc, 4 ch2 sps TIP: You may want to mark the 1st hdc of each side. The hdc stitch tends to hide and look like a chain when made after a chain stitch.

Round 11: NOTE: You will be working in round 8 except the sl st in the ch2 sps as those will be worked in round 10. With C2 join with a sl st to any ch2 sp, * ch4, [working rnd 9 fptr around the same cxolor st twice, ch2] six times, ch4), sl st in ch2 sp of rnd 10 * 3 times then ( ) once. Join with a sl st to beg sl st. Finish Off. 96fptr, 20 ch2 sps, 8 ch4 sps, 4 sl sts

Round 11

Round 12: NOTE: You will be working hdc in rnd 10 & in front of chs from rnd 11. The sc will always be worked in fptr of rnd 11. You will also be skipping 2 sts behind the fptr. With C1 join with a sl st in ch2 sp of rnd 10 and over sl st of rnd 11, ch2, 4hdc in same sp, * (hdc in next 3, [sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts] five time, sc next 2 sts, hdc next 3 sts), 5hdc over sl st of rnd 11 & in ch2 sp of rnd 10 * three times then ( ) oince more. Join with a sl st to top of beg ch2. Finish Off. 48 sc, 84hdc
